Landscapes - a view over the land, sometimes including a prominent subject, sometimes just an interesting view, always with something that held my attention.
I spent a very happy day out in the New Forest, setting off early to capture the sunrise - but it was raining, again. No sunrise. As the day wore on the sun came out and with everything so wet, the colours were so rich, and with so many puddles (practically lakes in places) the reflections were abundant. I loved this image, with the white tree trunks in background viewed through the dark trunks in the foreground, leaves on the water's surface and the band of orange ferns
2020/11/01The view west from the terrace in front of the Château du Haut-Konigsbourg, a medieval castle in Orschwiller, Alsace, France. The clouds came in as the day wore on, and the haze over the Vosges mountains thickened. The layers looked like paper cut-outs and the clouds glowered overhead.

2024/09/24Named as the row of trees reminds me of a fortress. This is one of my favourite walks, the beech trees at Danebury Ring. There used to be a fence all around the inner circle, and the leaves gathered and then the trees self-seeded themselves. After many years they took the fence down and we are left with rows of trees following the old fence line. This one is at sunset when the golds and pinks reflect of the grey bark.
2021/01/18Autumn mists at Chapelle St-Florent, Lac de Longemer, France. At the head of the lake is a public park, boating, etc. And on a little knoll, all on it's own, this small chapel. I thought this would be a black & white image as soon as I saw it: the white of the walls, the grey slates and the light shining on the lead flashing contrasting with the dark trees behind it; the mist moving silently down through the valleys.
2024/09/23We were on a break in a Airbnb at Hawkes Point, and inevitably of the "3 seasons in a day" tradition, we got to Autumn just around sunset. The gathering clouds were dark grey until the sun just lined itself up with the horizon and for 10 brief minutes it shone through the drizzle
2022/09/12We were out on Boxing Day, walking off lunch, and thought we might go to Watership Down. It was misty when we set off, but by the time we got there it was pretty thick fog. We could hear a lot of people talking (loudly), horses stamping and a general hullabaloo, and then through the mist we saw the local hunt. It was all very ethereal and just a little bit spooky. They milled about for a bit, then the horn sounded and off they went, into the gloom.
